To advocate for and promote the common goals of SL
Educators.
Goals
- To develop partnerships which support and
recognize the contribution of SLEC members,
- To develop and support access to services
supporting SLEC members,
- To sharing of information and collaborate
more closely between SLEC members, and
- To provide access to information on quality
improvement of educational methods.
Committee/Sub-Committee Mandates
Executive Committee (EC)
whose responsibility is to oversee the operations of the
group, its logistics, and communications between sub-committees. The
group committee will be comprised of a Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary, and
Treasurer (optional at the discretion of the SLEC). In addition the EC
will include the Chair and Vice-Chairs of each of the following
sub-committees.
Advocacy Sub-Committee
whose responsibility is to liaison with Linden Lab and
other real-life education bodies for the purposes of promoting the works
of SL Educators and our value to both the SL community and education.
Quality Assurance Sub-Committee
whose responsibility is to report on best practices,
tools, and other support services which may be of general interest to
the SL Education members in the support of program development.
Communications Sub-Committee
whose responsibility is to help coordinate the sharing of
information, forums, classes, events, and other information of general
interest between SL Education Council Members. This sub-committee will
also co-ordinate any google groups, databases, and/or web sites as or if
necessary.
Definitions
School
A school is an organization designed to allow and
encourage students to learn with the assistance of instructional
mentors.
SLEC School
An SLEC School is one which consists of more than one
instructor, is promoted as a center of learning with a fixed based of
operations, holds learning events on a regular monthly basis, and is not
represented through other organizations and/or affiliations.
Membership & Voting
SLEC Group Membership is open to all members of
the educational community regardless of affiliation. Group membership
does not confer the right to vote on matters before the Executive
Committee but may confer the right to vote on sub-committees at the
discretion of the sub-committee chair.
SLEC Voting on matters before the Executive
Committee shall be limited to 1 vote per SLEC School.
Each SLEC School shall nominate up to 2 people
which are capable of voting that school's vote at a given meeting.
A Quorum shall be declared when 50% + 1 of the
eligible delegates are present to vote.
Votes shall be carried by a simple majority of the
voting delegates.
Vote of significance must allow for at least 1
week to review associated materials by each SLEC School.
The Executive Committee will oversee elections of
EC positions once every 6 months by a vote of eligible delegates.
Executive Committee members who have served 1 term
are not required to stand aside but may be re-confirmed through a simply
majority of the SLEC voting membership.
Executive Committee members who have served 2 or
more consecutive terms must stand aside to allow others to run for that
position. Standing aside does not preclude any member from re-running
for the same position on the Executive Council.
Members wishing to run for a particular EC
position
should state their intentions 1 month in advance of such a vote taking
place.
Sub-Committee Responsibilities
Each Sub-Committee will have at a minimum a chair
and vice-chair plus may encourage participation from as many other
members / volunteers as necessary to fulfil their role. Sub-Committees,
in general, act independent from the Group Committee and meet on a
schedule of thier own choosing. Chairs and/or Vice-Chairs are required
to provide updates to the Group Committee on a regular basis as to their
activities, needs, and results. Chairs and Vice-Chairs are required to
have an SL Education Council tag as one of their SL Groups. Chairs and
Vice-Chairs for specific sub-committee should not be from the same
school.
Executive Committee Responsibilities
The Executive Committee will meet at least once per calendar month,
establish the overall priorities for the group, and provide logistical
support to sub-committees and their activities. The Executive Committee
will also be charged with control and approval of any major expenditures
for and by the SLEC, if or as required. EC members are required to have
an SL Education Council tag as one of their SL Groups.
Fair and Open Dialogue
It is pre-requisite on each sub-committee, and the group committee as a
whole, to ensure that they solicit feedback from as many of the 20+
SLEC Academic Institutions as possible in promoting specific agendas. In
cases where there may be a irresolvable conflict, the Executive
Committee, having been duely voted by the membership and after
consultation with the membership, shall be charged with mediating and
disputes and, if necessary, making final determinations assuming all
other reasonable courses have been explored.
